Albert is passionate about securities regulation, investor rights and the power of collective action. As a Principal at Kim Spencer McPhee Barristers and a member of the Securities Litigation Group, Albert pursues securities class actions on behalf of investor plaintiffs.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Albert was an investment advisor with Nesbitt Burns. He earned the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation and became a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) in 1996. He went to law school intending to become a securities litigator and spent the first ten years of his career doing so at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP and Bennett Jones LLP in Toronto. In 2011, Albert changed his focus to public service and began prosecuting on behalf of the Ontario Securities Commission and the Law Society of Ontario. In 2018, Albert returned to private practice to pursue investor rights through securities class actions.
Albert earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in 1997, a civil law degree in French and a common law degree in English from McGill University in 2001.
Albert volunteers as a Hearing Panel Roster Member for FP Canada in regard to discipline matters involving Certified Financial Planners. Albert is the Chair of the Academy Concert Series, which produces three chamber music concerts per year in Toronto.
